I just got my two female Mallard Ducklings today! I am thrilled! Last year I had a horrible experience with pekin ducklings. Both died from leg problems. So, I made sure that I looked at the ducklings very carefully to see that their legs were both very healthy! One is fine, but the other, will run around, and then just flop down. Should I be concerned? She walks great, but then will just kind of plop down. here is a pic

I have even said a prayer to make sure I dont have to go through another horrible experience of loosing my babies!

Awww, adorable! One of them looks like it might have the two eye stripes rouens have, but it might be the angle of the shot.

I can't help you much on their health, but since it's the first day you've had them, I would just make sure the more tired one is eating and getting lots of nutrients he needs.

Give them Niacin in their water every day and give them lots of peas. At the age they are at now mash the peas up in water to make a pea soup then the 2nd week they should be able to eat them whole. I put mine in the bath every night and throw handfulls of peas in during their bath. My last 2 drakes would bang on the cup at the side of the bath as if to say OK...give us Peas then once the peas were all gone I would show them and they would finish their bath and try to jump out. Peas also has lots of Niacin in it to keep their legs healthy.

Listen to gofasterstripe. I did, and peas saved my duckies life... Now they are as healthy as can be, and still LOVING peas!

They're so addicted, if they see the bag they start running over to me, and if I don't pull them out fast enough they will stick their heads in the bag!

They love that, and oatmeal...

I just gave them peas mashed up in water as you said, and they barley touched it!! I was surprised! But I will continue to et them to eat peas. And the niacin in the water, can I buy this at the feed store? If I get it tomorrow will they be ok for tonight?

peas are the key to a ducks heart lol! my crew free range all day (as long as its nice out) and then come back in the house to a bag of peas

I can go to Walmart tonight and get niacin tablets. They are called spring valley dietary supplement flush free niacin. How many if these would I put in their water? Will it work? Thank you!!!!
