I'm new to raising chickens, I started out picking up two Ancona chickens from a local here. They were chicks when I got them back in September. Now that its spring one of my chickens started laying about 1 month ago. About the same time as one chicken started laying, the other looked like it was getting really sick. Stopped moving around as much, didn't eat, everything about it looks slumped and lethargic. So I fed it some yogurt with olive oil and massaged its crop for two days. One the third day the chicken hopped out of the coop just as perky as before. So something I did brought it back from the brink of death. But now after a month has gone by, she still hasn't laid an egg.
Can their be an individual chicken that just won't lay eggs? Just to clarify, Both chickens are sisters. they were hatched the same day, and raised on the same organic feed. They have free range of my backyard which is large.
I'm hoping I just need to be patient and she will lay here soon.
