Two dumb questions about tractors

living in mississippi, i cant answer number two. Before i got my new chicks and after the dog massacre, i was left with two chickens that i didn't want to lose. i put them in a cage when i wasn't out there to stand over them. they would stick their heads out and eat grass and scratch at the grass beneath their feet. even with the wire underneath them, they could scratch up the grass enough to eat it. if the grass was really tall, it didn't matter.

I'm at the same place you are with the questions, I wondered the EXACT SAME THING about the floor on the run and haven't been able to find the answer so I'm loving this thread. I actually have three coops (long story) and want my run to be a tractor type and not attached/fixed (for now) to the coop so I can connect it to any one of the three, but mount it semi-permanently to the largest coop after it is complete. At that point I'll just roll it to the big coop and connect/install. That way I can get use out of it with all three coops.

It is 8x 14, the coop is 4x8 (easiest because everything comes in 4x8 sheets lol) We had 10 chickens, got a rescue, then lost two to the heat, so we went and got 9 chicks

We have covered the run with a huge tarp since this picture. We have the chicks under the coop separated from the big girls (the chicks can get out, but the hens cannot follow them back in, and they have a dog house in there as well.) We were going to keep only 2 chicks, but that is changing as I have fallen in love with the faverolles and the brabanters! So we may have to adjust it more.

They actually seem quite content. We move the coop every week and the girls usually free range a good part of the day (though our fence has been broken down from the storm for about a week so they have been stuck inside) We have not had any fights or issues (except the 6 month old new hampshire hates the rescue girl. The rescue has decided to join the chicks lol.) They do not even use all their roosting space at night. they all snuggle up together and leave at least half of it open.

I really think we can comfortably fit 14 or 16 in the coop and run (not by the standards, but the way it is set up and the chickens we have), but we will probably limit it to 12.
