Hi everyone, two of my hens, A Pekin and a Silkie-Serama have both come down with separate ailments. My Pekin has an empty crop, is looking pale, and hasn’t been leaving the coop much. but whatever is wrong with my Silkie-Serama doesn’t seem to be affecting anything but her walking. Can anyone help me figure out what’s wrong? The Pekin was my first chicken.

Hey sorry to hear two of your flock aren’t feeling well. How old are they? And when was the last time either laid? What do their abdomens feel like - are they bulgy or squishy at all? What do they eat and are they vaccinated for mareks?

The Pekin is 3 and the Silkie-Serama is 10 months. They are in separate coops which is why I’m sure it’s not the same thing. The Pekin hasn’t laid in a few weeks but the Silkie-Serama is laying her usual 2 times a week. Their abdomens do not feel abnormal. They eat mostly layers pellets, however during the winter I mix in some chick crumb and growers pellets. Once a day they get a homemade treat, which includes Mealworms, Grit, Herbs, supplements, seeds and oyster shell. Unfortunately they are not vaccinated for anything yet, as it is quite difficult to find a vet here that provides poultry vaccines however we are trying our best and have broadened our search to vets that deliver.

The one in the second picture may have scaly leg mites. You can apply and rub into the scales vaseline, Vicks, Nustock cream, castor or mineral oil, twice a week to kill the mites.
