First Issue - I have a Barred Rock hen that keeps laying anyplace but the nesting box, keep finding eggs in different places. Of the 9 she is the only one not using the nesting box. Hen house is 6’ X 10’ with 6 nesting boxes, covered run is 9’ x 16’ and given free range during the day. Have tried ceramic eggs, making a few of the nesting boxes darker. Considered cutting the free range out until she gets used to using the nesting boxes but last two, I found in the Hen House litter in the morning.

Second Issue - Not an emergency but concerning. My chickens (ISA Brown and Barred Rock) are laying a lot of double yolk eggs, I expect this during the first month but figured they would settle down afterwards but now out of 9 hens I am getting 4 double yolk eggs a week. I dropped the feed down to a 16%-layer pellet thinking I was feeding them to rich of feed but has had no effect. They have free choice oyster shells, and they are allowed to free range. I give them the cucumbers and tomatoes from the garden but while a lot of carbs should not be that much protein in those.

Yesterday I am pretty sure my ISA Brown laid a triple yolk; this thing looks like a duck egg!

Is BR the low bird?
Maybe she is being 'bullied' or intimidated away from the nests.
Do you have fakies in every nest?

How long have the birds been laying?

How long since you ramped down the protein?
Not sure if that will help, will be curious to see if it does.

Tho ovulation is hormone driven and high production hybrids are bred to be very productive.
