Two late hatchers...when to help?

I don't want to know. I'm one of those people if I get lost in the woods and there is no fruit trees or berries, I'm a goner!! I'm not a big meat eater and can not eat anything off a bone. IF I've met it, I'm not eating it...lol And I have had farm fresh meat and do not like it. I grew up on commercial store bought with all that extra crap that is going to kill ya in it and nothing else tastes right. Now farm fresh eggs I do prefer...lol

ooof, Amy you would HATE my house. LOL I raise chickens, ducks, rabbits and cows all for meat eggs and milk. This is one reason I don't name my animals... you don't name food. I respect your opinion, but in my opinion the supermarket may not always be there for me.

I hunt for all of my food that way it has a fair chance. Deer ducks rabbit turkey... I rarely ever have to buy meat from the store

I love the diversity represented in the last few replies! I think we all have very much in common, while at the same time representing very different philosophies about the way we choose to put food on our tables! So good to be able to discuss the common issues without getting (too terribly) upset about the differences! I grew up with a frog in one pocket, and a hampster in the other. My parents indulged my love of animals, and I was blessed beyond measure to start life on a farm with horses, sheep, chickens, a creek with a sand bar, and an abundance of pets of all species, including wild animals and pet store varieties!

I can't tell the difference in store bought/humanely farm raised meats and do my own birds(slaughter/eggs for ethical reasons.I also eat roadkill deer now because wild caught meat is extremely better for many reasons and its taken some time to come around to these ethical practices but I personally love animals enough to try to do whats good for them and not put MY eebie jeebies ahead of kindness.Takes a while but should be done(for critters sakes)And back to original subject....have "helped" late hatches and have caused trouble doing it so I will probably let any under current broody go a few days past and be patient.

LOL. Don't get me wrong, I am not against raising your own meat and being self sufficient. Just like I am not against hunting (as a means of food, not sport). It's just not something that I can do. Named or not, I couldn't raise it and eat it.

However, if my roo doesn't straighten his act up, I may very well turn tables and put him on one.

(I do hear Turkens are the most delicious bird.)

Well, Amy, maybe you can find a kindred spirit in your area, find a local poultry processor, and trade your culls to each other, ready to cook!

I wish I could raise beef. I wouldn't mind buying the hogs. There's something about a hog that just doesn't appeal to me until it's meat.

I've raised hogs in 20'X20' pens before. That was not appealing. Now, when I raise a hog, I'm able to turn them out into a 5 acre pasture with a good fence. They are much cleaner and the smell is almost non existant.
