two new boys

i have spoken to a few people in America and they said that they often keep two boys with a few girls, as long as there is plenty of hiding spaces and lots of room they have not had any problems. but i don't think i will be able to keep 3 boys with the girls, i will have to make a decision on which 2 i will keep. it's such a shame. i will keep my silver boy as he is really lovely looking boy.
well all has settled down now i have made another level for them to get on, the new boys are not use to a ramp so the girls can get away from them.
i have now realised i have another boy, my tebetan, i don't understand why it's taking so long for them to produce foam i have been checking them every week and not saw anything.
can someone tell me what else to look out for in a male, is the vent a different shape to girls, or any other outstanding looks on a male bits. it's the tibetan, silver and whites i am having trouble with.

Oh vent sexing can be tricky and if done too aggressively can hurt their private areas, I think the best luck I had with that was waiting till they were laying eggs cause then it's pretty clear which vents an egg has been passing through hehe. You can watch YouTube vids/see pics side by side on google for vent sexing.

Be careful about foam because once a girl is mated with, she can have foam there as well and be mistaken for a male.

You can also go "birdwatching with a beer" and hang out with them to see if you can see crowing.

I recall a forum user's old post where he says he tosses in some mealworms and looks for the males to tidbit to the girls :p even that isn't foolproof though as my female Italian tidbits for the other hens with some special treats

thank you Binki you always give good advice. well the tibetan was a girl, the foam as you said was from mating. the boys have a large bulge so i can't mistake them now. it's taken them 9 weeks to show what they are.

Thanks and you're very welcome! Glad the Tibetan turned out to be a girl :D
