Two new rabbits!

Hey everyone!

I got two new rabbits. They are harlequins. I'm currently doing the long introduction process to get my current rabbit, Sophie, a Netherland Dwarf/Californian, used to them. They are currently in separate runs.

Right after I got the rabbits, I went out to check on them in both the runs 10 minutes later. I saw this right away, on the telephone pole right by my house.



The runs are covered, so there's no problem.

I will keep you all updated on how the introduction process is going if you guys are interested in hearing.

Do you keep your bunnies in hutches or do they get to live on the ground? I would love to get some rabbits but don’t want to keep them in cages all the time. Like we did when I was a kid.

I try not to keep them in cages. I like to let them run around. That's why my Netherland dwarf/Californian is free-range. These two rabbits, I'm working on introducing to her, so they can be free range too.

I don't keep mine in cages, either... they have large outdoor runs.

And here are the two harlequins in their hutches. They are adorable. I'm currently in the process of introducing them. Their runs are side by side, and in about a week, I'm going to put them in neutral territory and introduce them.

Hi, I have 32 rabbits... I keep some in hutches and some on the ground in tractors...do you know what those are? They are a large cage on wheel basically. Ours have a tin roof. We have 3. I’ll go out and get pictures in a minute and add on my phone. Some of my rabbits have lived in the one tractor all summer..very happily..I had about 15 in there..but they were young. You right to do introductions on neutral ground...are they also females..is anyone fixed..how old are they? Typically the younger the better. I would definitely keep them out of range for that hawk. When you introduce..do it for short periods of time...do the other two rabbits have a bond? You don’t. Want a gang up situation, so it may be good to do the one, by one, by one, by one intro....there’s a great rabbit forum...rabbits online.net. Everyone is very nice, helpful, etc...just like here. Also, feel free to message me any time.. I know a lot now, unfortunately about sick rabbits, and definitely about building hutches..I have those pictures handy

The two rabbits that I got are sisters, so they bonded.

I get the financial issue. Ok. So since they are bonded I would definitely introduce one by one by one. I just had an issue introduction with two on one. Didn’t go well. And they were young. Took some pictures of tractor. The one without tin lid are for a few hours of playing. But in tractor they are safe

Oh your new harlequins are stunning! I have a harlequin of my own. I hope the bonding process goes well for you!

When I bonded my first two rabbits, (one of which died a few years back) we had just built a brand new hutch to move them outside, (previously they had been indoors) and we tried a few bonding sessions, then got lucky when we stuck them in the new cage. Everything was so strange they bonded almost instantly with no fighting. Sadly no new cage for my second rabbit I got after my other had to be put down... But it still went fairly smoothly and quickly. Hopefully your girls will get along fine!
