Two NR360s, used as an Incubator and Hatchery

I hatched 3 Goslings for the Easter Hatch-A-Long using a NR360 that I had just bought. I am really enjoying using it to hatch eggs, and I now have 12 Rouen duck eggs in the incubator. My wife now wants in on the fun and wants to hatch Silkies, and I am thinking of getting a second NR360.

I now have this hair-brained idea of staggering the eggs and using one purely as an Incubator, and the other one just as a hatchery. We have a pair of Toulouse geese, and once they start laying, I am thinking of collecting their eggs each week (3 or 4 eggs?) and putting them in the first NR360, then do the same thing (collect more goose eggs) each following week and add them to the first incubator. Once the eggs hit the lock down date, I would simply move them into the second NR360 that would have the egg turner removed and set for the higher humidity and wait for them to pip and hatch. The second incubator would not be as crowded for the hatching birds. It seems like I would just need to clean the second NR360 after each hatch.

Anyone else doing something similar with a pair of incubators, using one as an incubator and the other as a hatchery? Just wondering what your experience has been and if there are any pitfalls or concerns I should be aware of.

Thanks,
Ron

I think you'll find it's fairly common. 🙂 I use Brinseas and Hova-Bator 1588s as incubators and Hova-Bator 2370s as dedicated hatchers. While my hatchers are styrofoam, I do like restricting clean-up to the less expensive models. It's been working well, except that the styrofoam is prone to damage, so I'm considering something different as a hatcher - but since the NR360 is plastic, you shouldn't run into that issue (and you know how messy the incubator is post goose egg hatch).
