Sorry for the confusion... I simply meant to gas a chicken when it is a sick / injured chicken and you aren't able or don't want to do it via an axe or other messy method. If you are eating your chickens, you are correct, you'll want to use other methods.

Definitely DO NOT eat meat from CO gassed animals!!! The carbon monoxide enters the blood stream and would infiltrate the muscles.
However, it is OK to eat meat from animals gassed with CARBON DIOXIDE...slaughter houses in Europe routinely use carbon dioxide to stun the animals before slaughter. Very humane...
