I have four mature hens and two seven week old hens and an adult rooster and a seven week old rooster

The one male according to the OP is adult rooster and the younger one is a 7 weeks old cockerel. It may not matter much right now but when the young one gets older there may be problems and maybe not. I would still devise a plan B.

I agree with having a 'Plan B' - it may or may not work.
