Hi. I got my flock from someone who needs to get rid of them on Sunday night. I emptied the entire coop Monday morning wiped everything down and put pine shavings in previously had a lot of straw My silkie roosters has crusty stuff on his nose. If you hold him you can hear wheezing when he breathes. He is still active, eating and drinking. However my red sexlink seems worse. I could easily pick her up. She was “sleeping?” Standing by me while I cleaned the coop. She also sounds a little wheezy I believe she has diarrhea. I have had a hard time determining for sure who has diarrhea but I probably had two. Otherwise everyone seems active. I have seen everyone eat and drink. Weather her sucks. Rainy and 44. Would love any input/advice. Here are some pictures.

Did this resolve? I have hear that some chickens do not like pine shavings (and I've never used them myself so don't know if that's true or not) but I had read somewhere that they can have a reaction to it. Also, if they eat shavings, it doesn't help.

Recently we have changed from straw to finely cut, dust extracted, dried straw bedding with pine oil (as it was recommended by a chicken charity that rescues ex bats here in the UK) and it seems fine. Certainly better than the continual crop issues of the hens eating straw which then clogs up their crops.

I do hope things have got better.

Any updates on your 2 sick chickens,,?:frow
So unfortunately a fox got the little one . I am raising the chickens with someone else and he left the little rooster out for a bit and it did not go well. I had asked him not to leave them unattended. As for Maple, my red sexlink she is hanging in there. She is eating. She is somewhat docile. Her abdomen still seems swollen. I wonder if it is parasites Not sure where to get her stool checked or how to treat. Beyond that I have some lice I am treating but they are doing well. Been hard with all the rain we have gotten. Have not been able to start construction on the new coop yet.
