two weaselproofing questions

1) Do weasels climb fences? (would it be safe to cover just the bottom 2-3' with 1/2" mesh, with larger mesh openings for the upper part of pen walls?) What about climbing ramps into chickenhouses?

2) Should I worry about weasels getting into a run during the daytime, or are they only likely to hunt at dusk/night/dawn (when chickens would be shut in anyhow)?

Mulling over expansion plans for next year, and thinking about how we see weasel tracks every snowfall,

Yes, weasels can climb. I'm not sure there's anyway to keep them out if they want in. They can squeeze through a very small opening. I've seen them out in the day here, but I think they're probably more active at night.
