Two wks ago my hen had its wing ripped off. None of the vets would see it. I have been cleaning it daily and applying neosporin. Recently i started using Blu Kote (maybe a week now). Today the scab came off. I noticed a very scant amount of yellow drainage with an even scanter amount of blood on the scab. It is exposed bone and its a bloody pale color. I cleaned it up applied blu kote but noticed its skin looked irritated. Once hubs is free I sm going to clean again and apply neosporin instead. Should I be worried about infection or is this normal chicken healing?
Hen is in own cage with food, water, and electrolytes. I have tried in increase protein by offering scrambled eggs but she's not interested. She will eat a small amount of crumbles with plain yogurt which we do at times. Along with dried meal worms.

poor baby!!, have you tried giving her penicillin that may help with infection, you can get it at most feed stores. Someone on another thread suggested something called underwood, for wounds. said it works VERY well and can be gotten at feed stores, ,,I have not used this so don't know anything about it but it sounded like a good thing to have on hand

I have only been able to find Penicillin in one place, but I wasn't sure of the MG to get. And I'm nervous giving it to her. She's only about seven weeks old. I have never heard of Underwood, I will see what I can find!

So I called the vet this AM. They had me get water soluble tetracycline. While I was picking that up, the guy at the feed store recommended this spray. http://store.vetericyn.com/index.ph...cyn-wound-and-infection-16-oz-trigger-30.html
I sprayed it on her as soon as I got home, mixed up the water, cleaned the cage, and gave her fresh food. I'm worried that she's lost weight. She feels lighter/smaller, but I never thought to weigh her before.

Oh, and the vet said chickens can't have penicillin.

Vetericyn is an excellent product, referred to as "The Holy Water" of wound care.

I just read some customer reviews on it. Praying it works!! I am aiming for three times a day, but two will be a bit closer as I am away from home 9-10 hours a day.
