Hi there!
I'm a Texas resident who lives in the city (by an airport!) on half an acre. My 1/2 border collie, Apollo, is a sweet docile boy, but we'll see how he feels about his new feathery sisters. I have 3 girls arriving the last week of April.
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Yes, I'm new to chickens.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
0, but 3 pullets arriving soon!
(3) What breeds do you have?
I'll have an Easter Egger, Buff Laced Polish, and Silver Laced Wyandotte.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
I'm looking forward to having company as I garden and feathery living composters to help me dispose of my weeds and bolted herbs.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I garden, read voraciously, bake, visit our city's latest restaurants/cocktail bars, and work like a mad woman to support Apollo. Pre-pandemic, I also traveled quite a lot, but I imagine worrying about my chickens will keep me home much more.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
In the house are Apollo and I, but I live in the same town as my large extended family. I'm an in-house attorney, so the chickens will be a welcome additional source of anxiety.

BYC consistently popped up on Google as I was looking for answers to my 390,021,518,721 questions. Thrilled to be here to take advantage of community wisdom!
