Tylan 50 for ducks?---**UPDATE**---

Whenever I have a stressed duck who will not eat, I make a soup out of their regular chow.....mallards especially take to this as they are dabblers.

I'm almost positive she drank a little bit of water though today. Her water bowl had junk in it like she had been playing in it. Today or tomorow she will start her antibiotics. My vet is like an hour away so I don't always get there right away. The hole looks like its closing more. It doesn't smell really bad. It doesn't smell great (not that a gaping wound would smell like roses) but it doesn't smell infected so thats a good sign I guess. Poured some peroxide in it last night. It fizzed pretty good. Then I ran some cool water in it. She seems to kind of like that cool water I think. I suppose if its all inflamed and irritated cool water would feel good. I wish I would have taken a pic of it when it first happened. Stupid dog was at it again today. The birds are dumb enough to go in the dog run so the dog is dumb enough to try and eat them. I think she may be on her way out soon.

Ok. The vet gave me Baytril for her. Who knew it would be so hard to get her to take a pill. I forgot the mg of the pills but she gets 1/2 a tab once a day for 5 days. After it was all said and done and I figured out how to get her to take it she got 1/4. Somewhere along the battle I lost 1/4 of it. lol She still hasn't eaten really that I know of. I let her out in the yard for awhile today after all the other ducks were locked up for the night. She drank some water and splashed in the pool a bit. Preened herself. Her buddies came and sat outside her kennel this evening and kept her company. I really hope she makes it. I gave her some chick starter tonight to see if that made her eat at all.

I'm still worrie though. thats what I do. lol I won't feel better until its all healed over. I'd feel alot better if I could see her eat too. Vet said not to worry to much yet.

I suppose it is time for an update. She is doing very good. She fights me like crazy every evening when I try and give her her pill. The hole is almost closed. She is eating and drinking and ready to go out. I'm not letting her out until it is all the way healed. She has tons of energy again which is good. So I'm pretty sure she will make it. I will have to get some pics of her up here so you guys know who she is!

oh yea, that's the good thing about poultry, they heal from wonds very fsat. I had a few turkey hens over the year get laid open on their sides from breeding, I mean like 6-10 inch fileted open slabs of skin, usually within a week to 10 days, you'd never knoe they were cut.
Great to hear it's getting better....
