I have 1 layer right now and have introduced a few youngin's and was wondering if there was a feed that I could use for both egg laying and in between chickens? I heard that the non laying chicks should not have layer food, so was trying to keep it simple.

Thanks,
Matt

Many people on here feed all-flock feed or a chick grower feed permanently. Just make sure you supply oyster shell on the side. :)

Thanks, yea...I heard that too, but just wanted to see if that's a common solution...They free range, but I also supply grit...should I also supply the oyster shells for the calcium?

If anyone is laying, yes. Those that aren’t supposed to eat it won’t eat it, they’re good about regulating their calcium. I’ve read a lot more recently about how layer feed has lower protein than the others, so many people are making the switch anyway for a higher protein feed, usually chick grower I believe.
