ugg Poison Ivy!!!

From an ACV uses site:

POISON IVY & POISON OAK
The health and fitness expert Patricia Bragg recommends spraying a solution of equal parts apple cider vinegar and distilled water on to the affected areas to stop the pain, itching and ease the swelling. Cooling the spray in the refrigerator will provide even more relief.

Hope this helps.

The rubbing alcohol only subsides the itching temporarily...or for me that is how it went. I get PI just by looking at it. MY kids and DH can roll in the stuff and not get it but when they touch me after touching it then I get it.

A steroid shot is what the DOc will give you...or pills if you prefer. The shot is worth it!

I use Oak-n-Ivy Brand Cala-Gel. Just follow the directions on the bottle. It may save you a trip to the Doc. Just wash it with soap and apply the Cala-Gel. Let it dry on your skin. You should only need to use it a couple of times and it will clear right up.

Sometimes I use it when I've been walking around and just see the plants. I'll use it before I break out, just in case.

This stuff works way better than calamine lotion or anything else I've used in the past. Good luck.

If it keeps spreading that probably means the oils are still on something that you are in contact with. First thing I do when I know I've been in the PI is to wash me and all of my clothes in dish soap, you need a grease cutter to remove the oil. Make sure you use cold water to wash you so that your pores do not open up and admit more oils, this will make the rash worse. So, make sure ALL of the clothing, gloves, shoes, hats.... That might have come in contact with the oils from the plant have been washed with dish soap. Second, once you have washed you and removed all oils from the plant you CANNOT spread the poison ivy rash to anyone else. It is one of the biggest myths out there that your rash can spread to someone else, it is the oil from the plant that causes that rash and that's it. Now, the rash itself sucks, you can take Claritin OTC to help reduce the effects of it, all other home remedies are at your discretion. I've tried most of them, and can't really say one works better/faster than any other. I do swear by that Claritin though, if I know I'm going to be clearing brush I start taking that stuff 2 or more days before and take for 2 weeks after and my rash is usually only a few bumps. Good luck!!

Cedar wood oil will help with the itch and dry it up takes a few days to work drying up but the itch thing will work within the hour. Also there is a commercial product called Ivydry that works well and most drug stores carry it. If it gets real bad get the shot. I do not like prednisone as it has so nasty side effects... Good luck

Almost forgot Dawn dish soap is the best to use to remove the oil.

Also try some benadryl for the itching and it will help with the drying of it too.

Poison ivy doesn't spread, you cannot give it to anyone unless you didn't wash the oil from the plant off of you. It seems like it spreads because your skin reacts to it at different times, like in a spreading pattern, If you walk through it it brushes your leg, arm what ever, it drags across your skin, so you break out where ever the oil touched your skin. The blisters won't spread the rash, it is just your skins reaction to the oil, it is you body fluid in the blisters that seeps out.
My DH has it right now, and what ever he puts on it just makes his skin more irritated, he has tried the ivy dry, and it just makes him itch more, he must have sensitive skin, because it helps me out! Even Calamine lotion makes his worse!
I really hope you find something to sooth yours, DH is miserable!

Itching and discomfort aside if you have it that bad go to doc ASAP. Any allergic reaction to poison or other allergens can cause you to lose the ability to breath, and this can happen very fast, like within seconds. Get the steroid shot and it will go away. Now you know you are at risk avoid the plant, take benadryl immediately on contact and then a shower ASAP. Throw clothes in washer before shower, so as not to touch them again. And then wash after shower so you don't get a surprise while in the shower.

Right..unless you get all the oils/plant juices off your skin VERY well it will keep spreading. Thats why i say after you bathe or even sleep in your sheets i would wash the linens VERY well...Until your sure that you got ALL the plant sap off your skin...
