Uggg -- Wrong size nesting Boxes

My DH had me a coop built for Christmas. He called and asked me the size of nesting boxes I wanted. I told him I thought the standard was 12x12. Well when I went in and looked the guy made them like 9 deep and 12 high. What should I do, the coop is finished except for painting it...Now this all happened right after Christmas and I have not had the heart to tell DH they are wrong. I am hoping that they will work out...
