PROBLEM SOLVED thaanks

I need more predesone for my silkie who has been injured. I had a bottle left over from when my ds had it prescribed (but did not take cause he got better, per dr instructions) anyway it has really been helping and now I need more but no Dr will prescribe it to me. And the vets wont either unless I bring the bird in which is $150 to walk through the door and I still owe $300 from my last visit which was not supposed to be over $200 but I was hit with a bill of over $900 and have been unable to pay it all at once.

It is just predesone, a childrens dose, not some Narcotic. They know I am a responsible person and I told them it was for a chicken.

I get that it is a prescription I really do but a little understanding would be nice

I have checked many sites and can not find it anywher does anyone have a suggestion or know of a vet who would prescribe it to me via a phone call? I have enough to get through the next 2-3 days but I have been told to NOT stop it abruptly as it can have horrible effects, and I need to taper it off slowly but I think he still needs it and dont want to stop just yet if I dont have to.

Thanks

Have you looked for a veterinary supply store in your area?

They might be able to help.

Our local cat/dog vets wont do call in scrips but our Farm Animal Vets all do. I recently had one order me human chemo drugs for my horse without ever coming to the barn.

Good luck and keep trying. Someone out there must be able to help.

Just an FYI, it is against Federal law to prescribe medication to an animal without doing an exam. If something negative happened as a result of the medication, and the dr. didn't do an exam, one could go to the medical board and they would lose their license to practice medicine.

ETA: If your vet is going to charge you $150 to do an exam, and they rack up a $900 bill without your permission, you need a different vet my dear...

you know what fustrates me, my dr gives it to me for my ds so easily, 3 times we never even used it he will prescribe it and have me fill it but wait to see if my ds gets worse before giving it as he knows to many steroids is no good and I feel the same way. But with my ds breathing issues it is good to have just in case he has an eposode. I usually trow the bottles away after a month or so since they only cost $8 to fill it is no biggie, but now I wish I had not thrown them away. I will keep them from now on.

Gonna go digging through my cabenetts now to see if there is any old stuff left that maybe I forgot to throw away.

ETA I am right by the city so there are no farms or farm vets that I know of but I will make some more calls

This is the only vet that will even see a chicken with in hours of me, I have called every one in my phone book.

I know plenty of people who can call in scrips for both animals and people even, heck if my mom calles her dr she can get antibiotics with out seeing them. I do understand but frankly at the moment I care more about my chicken then someone unwilling to bend the rules this one time. I would bring in the chicken to the vet but he wont "see" him for less money and I just dont have it.

@ Ahappychick: In your original thread, another member offered to send you some, maybe you could take them up on thier offer & cover thier costs?
