one of my neighbors got 8 chickens from Tractor Supply, couple months back..and I am so annoyed at their ignorance..Needed some place to vent.. 4 of them are Australorps and the other are commercial broilers, i did not even realize tractor supply carried them but they do i guess..
For the past couple months I encouraged her to read Grit, or Storeys Guide to Chickens, i also let her know she has 4 meat chickens and to ration their food.
Those chickens eat and eat and eat until nothing is left leaving the Australorps to feed on grazing only. But they so huge they cant walk, just a step or two and plop down mouth always open with heavy breathing.
Now two of them hubby noticed cannot walk at all. they flap they wings while they are on their side to wiggle to the food bowl and just pig out..I asked the woman yesterday if she plans to process them and if she needed help I would help her, she replied with ohh they hurt their legs...In my head i was like have u not a clue they to big for their little legs and they are featherless on their bellies..I had to excuse myself and walk on..
Sounds bad but i wish a coon would put them out their misery..she said she keeping them for eggs ..i guess i just feel bad for them and needed someplace to vent. I cant stand to see animals suffering and its not like i cant notice as i see them next to my fence everyday..and those 2 flapping their wings that r laying on their sides just rip my heart up...
