UGH! Fleas! Help!

The old advantage still works for me but that new K9 advantix, I think it's called, is useless here. I have two dogs and four indoor cats and live in Florida so we have to really watch for fleas. One shot flea and tick killer by blackflag is what I use to kill the ones inside. Usually it is only a problem in the Spring for them to be inside....but you have to get on it quick!

Hmm. Wondering if the Canadian Advantage is the same as the American one....same formulation? Five years working in a vet's office....hardly ever had a complaint.

I have never checked to compare but I also have cats and the new one cannot be used on them. It was easier to buy one big tube package and dole it out! Once I tried the new and it didn't seem effective at all.

I have been using Borax for years and have never had a problem, but on your advice, I googled it. I found nothing that says it is harmful to animals. Please don't confuse Borax with Boric acid, they are two different things, and the latter is harmful. Borax is about as harmful as table salt.

When our house was infested, the biggest help was Borax on the carpet. But I vacuumed, sprinkled, left it alone. I'm sure when I moved from there, there was still Borax at the base of the carpet fibers. When you have to vacuum again, sprinkle the Borax again after vacuuming. It doesn't have to be thick. We had to spray the whole yard with poisons but they were never used in the house. We were faithful about keeping Advantage on the animals after that, though. I sprinkled Borax on the mattresses then put the mattress pad on, too.

I have definitely heard that Frontline and Advantage are no longer working in the US South. The best long-term solution seems to be to get rid of carpet, but for those who can't do that they're finding that Comfortis is working for them. There are a couple of new meds - ProMeris is one and Comfortis is another. I'm hearing horror stories about ProMeris but Comfortis is effective and seems to be safe as long as you are not giving it to pregnant b.itches. It's very bitter, though, so you should hide the pill in food. A few people are having trouble with vomiting when they give it orally and the stomach is empty.

Ive been using the Comfortis since it came out. Never had a dog been sick on it but I do go thru 1LB of cold meat to get the suckers to eat it. They always manage to eat the meat and spit the pill out but it goes down in the end

Frontline works fine here.

None of my 10 dogs have fleas an half of them came here with them.

Treating the pets fixes the issue. No point in treating the house when all the fleas are working hard to get on the pets.
