thndrdancr - haha, same! My red chicken, Ginger, is the one confusing me the most... Spanky has a good size comb and it's turing red but no waddles yet whatsoever, and Bo-Peep, well, that one's just "Special" in more ways then 1...lol

Chicks change colors as they grow. That is how my bb red colored chicks were colored as young cockerals. When chickens moult at sexual maturaty they get their adult colors. Rooster chicks start out drab brown but after molt become a shiny beautiful red color.

Why is it that the first time I get chickens, they have to be the oddest, most gender and breed confusing? - haha, I guess I'm just lucky.
Spanky apprears to be molting opposite. When the "adultish" feathers first began to grow in the brown was much redder, but now it's lightening out into pale golden brown. He/she is turning more black on the back and whatever brown feathers are on it's back have white tips along with 2 white spots just behing the comb on top of it's head...
