BC,
So my SIL went out and bought her kids chicks for easter! She posts on facebook "sitting here laughing as the kids chase their chicks"I know it's not her fault for being... let's use the term naive so I don't say anything mean. SERIOUSLY THOUGH!!!!! she KNOWS chicks become chickens...

I then ask her what she's going to do once they become full grown chickens... her reply "chicken nuggets. LOL JK keep them till they escape hopefully get some eggs."

Her ignorance kills me. These poor chicks will die within a few weeks I'm sure. she has no where really to keep them (other than the back yard), knows nothing about chickens and doesn't seem to want to learn. Oh the kids are 10 for the eldest and 3 are under 6 years old....

ARRRRRRG!

I second the kidnapping idea. Keep them or give them to someone who wants them. Either way, they need to get the heck out of there!

ETA: I cannot post fast enough. Geez, maybe you can convince her to give them away.

I told her to find a farm and donate them but I doubt she'll be doing that!! UGH! On top of all that, SHE can just waltz into a store and buy chicks, ME, I have a hell of a time trying to find someone who'll sell them. Oh the irony!

ETA: wow, my appologies, I don't mean to sound like I'm better than her, just that I'm doing research, planning/building a coop and she has no real concern for these poor chicks

Yep, this is the kind of stuff where I don't even bother teaching them. Some people are just too far, umm, "gone," to learn.

After the conversation I had with her she has no intention really to keep them. She's hoping they'll just escape! and I'm not close enough. Maybe I should just send her a copy of "Chicken Raising for Dummies" The other problem is that I'd be the blind leading the blind... I'm still waiting on my first chicks

I can't tell whether she's naive or uneducated...

I'm sorry. Maybe she can give the chicks to you...?

If I were close, I'd make it a project for all of us. Include the kids so they can learn responsible pet/flock owning. Buuuuuut... I'm 3000 miles away
