My grandma has a pomeranian that is constantly chases my chickens when I'm not around, all she does is yell at the thing, this is going to stress my hens out! I feel like sitting under my porch and shooting the rat with a bb gun(where I won't be seen by grandma you know), can't wait until my little cockrel grows up and beats that dog up

i dont understand this, we have 3 dogs, and we take care of my sisters 3 (she has boxers, mine are in my signature) none of the dogs can get to my chickens, if you want to free range the chickens, why not fence off part of the yard for the dog?

Sounds like the little turd does need the tar flogged out of him LOL... One day you will see the dog chase a hen over the hill and then right after the dog running back with the rooster chasing him.

Grrrr. I hate ankle snappers. If you discipline them everyone acts like you "hurt the poor wittle doggy." They don't care if the poor wittle doggy is attached by its teeth to your ankle. Isn't that cute??

I prefer to think of them as soccer balls.

Hey now we have a mini dachshund and shes not bad.

When we first got the birds she killed a couple of my ducks, and she would eat a chick if she could get at it, but she leaves the adult birds alone and if I say her name in "the tone" she leaves everything else alone too. I can free range my chooks all day while I'm at work and she leaves them all alone, in fact, they pick on HER now!

Let that lil roo grow up and things will be very different!

Grrrrrrr!

I'm seeing a lot of folks here are blaming the dog, when the real fault, (as usual

) is with the owner. The dog is only doing what is natural for it to do. You need to just sit down with your Grandmother, and calmly explain to her the ramifications of stress on chickens. She either needs to keep the dog away from the chickens using a fence or tie-out, or you need to build a run for your birds. Yelling at the dog might only be encouraging it. To the dog, it sounds like you are joining in, baying after the prey. Perhaps either your Grandma or yourself can take the dog to an obedience class? Shooting or getting rid of the dog is just piling irresponsibility on top of irresponsibility.

I had my 6 m/o yellow lab sit, then lie down in the chicken run last night. The chickens came over to explore, and he did fairly well, but you could see that retrieve instinct. Training. Do it.

My question is, who owns the house and yard? I have no idea how old you are. If you are an adult and own the house and Grandma is a guest, then Grandma needs to control or confine the dog. If you are a minor and it's Grandma's house, then you need to confine the chickens. If the house is owned by anybody else (like parents), then they get to decide who needs to be confined or controlled.
