One of my oh-so-special longed for 6 days spent in shipping bantam cochin eggs is hatching! May be my only one though.

5 of our olive-eggers hatched yesterday and we managed to get 2 neighborhood kids in front of the viewing window just in time to watch 2 push their ways out! Nothing new since yesterday - so I guess the other 6 eggs aren't going to hatch? I'll leave them a little longer just to make sure

These eggs were shipped and held a little longer than recommended, so I guess it's normal.

Meanwhile, we noticed immediately after it popped out of the shell that one has some issue on the right side of its face... The eyelids look fine but are closed tight. There is also a soft bulge under the eye that was noticeable while it was still wet and now makes its already-fluffy EE cheek really puff out. Doesn't seem to be infected, but the chick is more sleepy than the others. I hope it gets stronger and is a girl so we can give her a pirate name.

Everyone who's finishing hatches, let's all add to this thread : https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=378339
We
can figure out BYC-wide average hatch rates with baters vs hens and shipped vs unshipped!!
