I have lived on my property for 5 years now. I have been spoiled. There hasn't been any near neighbors. In fact we were the first people out here. For two months we had NO nieghbors and then the ones we got, we loved. Then single wide guy moved in and we shot two of his dogs for eating our ducks (or trying to) and I got rid of my beloved Lobo because HE tried to eat my ducks. I am trying not be a hypocrite. So there has been a lot between us and our nearest nieghbors. Please do not think I am racist or prejudiced by what I am about to say and I apologize in advance if I offend ANYONE here. I am being crowded out by Hispanics. I am from a huge hispanic family. However mine are courteous, respectful and quiet. These hispanics think nothing of getting outside at 7 am on a SUNDAY and blaring their stereos. So last night our last empty lot was sold. The guy was out with a brush hog clearing his lot. He yelled at my dogs to shut up. I yelled at him to not talk to my dogs. He was leaning on my fence! He broke MY water pipe at the meter that was on MY property!!! At 10:30 pm!!!!!! My poor hubby. He was out there until 11:30 and then had to get up at 3:30 am to go to work. I kept asking....It was on my property why did you need to cut here. He apologized but didn't offer to help my husband. Needless to say he is grouchy!!! He is going to go buy goat wire to build a fence. Thank Goodness it is halfway done anyway. I asked him if he had any crazy dogs and he said no and I said Good because I have chickens and I will kill a dog for my chickens!
He said.....we eat chickens we can no eat dogs so chickens safe. I plan on offering my neighbors chickens eggs if I need them to not do something. *snicker*

Maybe it is not hispanics--- but just ingorant people of any racial bacground that are not curtious and respectful.

I would think though that you should be able to do something about him breaking your water pipe and meter, He should pay for your supplies and/or time to fix it. I am always anxious about new people moving next door. You never know what to expect! It can ruin your own little sanctuary.

My son Jorge would say to you-- we carry the burden for those who are not as educated--
your burden maybe to be kinder and smarter then your neighbors

Oh I should have said that is all that is moving out here. I love my neighbors the Rezendez. We have been great neighbors for 5 years. When I called Kim she said oh great. now Cruz will want to move. (and he is hispanic) I know that there is ignorance in all races. I should add that my family is multi-cultural and multi-ethnic. My little Fi-Fi (who I just adore! 3 month old niece) is multi-racial. Her mom is a black american (she hates the term African-American) and her dad is a mix of Hispanic, german french (he is a mutt like me) We have the same mom. His dad is my adopted Dad. He was from Hondo, Texas and his parents were from Gaudalahara (sp?) Mexico. So I was raised with lots of diversity. I don't like living with any one race. I like it mixed up. We had one black family in our horseshoe. They were the best nieghbors! Then a family moved in next door that were low-class trash. And they fought and the black family left. This low-classed family tried to steal a car from me. I sold it to them and they were supposed to pay me so much a month. Well two months went by and they didn't pay so I went and took back my car. They had a stolen inspection sticker and false tags. This car was still in our name. We could have gotten so much trouble. Well, I am going to keep an open mind about these new nieghbors. He apologized and I said. Hell of a way to meet your new nieghbors eh? He said yes, you're my nieghbors and I need to keep you happy. I told him as long as he didn't wake me up with loud music and he didn't come on my property with out asking again and left my chickens alone we would get along. Maybe I should offer some of my fresh cat fish? I am going to have to build a fence because I am scared that someone is not going to be watching their kid and they will drown in my pond. I have nightmares but it took so long to build it I won't take it down. I don't think it would be my fault if they came on my property, do you?

Sounds to me like it's time for a 6' (or higher) wooden privacy fence around the whole property or maybe think of moving. I would be afraid of drugs and violence from the worst families on the block. As for the pond, it depends on the laws in your area. Some places say that you are responsible because you attracted the child onto your property by having the pond and did not fence it to prevent them from drowning.

Well, I have to agree with you. I also live in an area of hispanic folks.

Most are great neighbors but some have not learned how to intergrate into the American life style and still choose to live in the Mexico mentallity.

I have visited my friends who live South of the border and they have the same problems we have here, people not respecting others.

It is not a monetary problem but a life style choice. There are those who are trying to be sociallly aceptable and then there are those who want to take over the United States and make the natives live in the poverty conditions in Mexico.

We have leash laws where I live but some choose not to obey the laws of the area.

I have lost (so far) 4 hens to dogs. The deaths promopted me to buy a humane coyote trap and call animal control and have them picked up. I have caught 2 in 2 days and I am working on catching the other 3. These dogs run free and come to my run every morning to check out the breakfast menu.

If my otherwise friendly neighbors ask if I have seen their dogs I will happily tell them they were picked up by animal control and I was the one who caught them. I would expect them to do no less if I have a dog stalking there cats, goats, pigs, chickens or any animal they chose to raise.

You have my sympathy, empathy and hope that you lose none of your animals to any predator.

Thanks. Ok I will talk to hubby about fencing in the front yard. He is already threatening to sit outside with the .410 next time they come out with that mower.

Good idea, Cheri, but I would still look into the legalities of having an unfenced pond if there are children around. In many places you could be found liable if someone's child trespasses and drowns in your pond.

As for the loud music, my dh (bless his heart) one time shut down a neighborhood teenage rock band by placing very loud speakers on top of our mobile home, pointing them toward the troublemakers, and when they would crank up he would play Poncho and Lefty, by Willie Nelson, over and over and over and....you get the picture. After a few days they moved their practiceing somewhere else.

You may want to check the laws in your state but I think here in NC as long as you have Danger and No Trespassing signs on your property if someone (including a child) gets hurt on your property then you are not at fault because you had signs up. Check your laws and put signs up around your pond.

That is where the pond is.......my front yard.

And I will post those signs. The old kids in the nieghborhood know better. I may also talk to the parents just to be sure.
