ugh.. old bator and i dont know if it will keep its temp!

well I am using barrel incubator from past. building a different one .

Its made of metal and its round and has press board on the bottom,
and top..

Well to work this you need to put a blanket around the outside.
Not the top.
there is a metal ring inside and grill this holds the eggs from the botton .
If it does not have the ring you should use a egg carton to hold the eggs off the cold bottom .and I covered all the holes in the bottom after installing the fan. which does very little

I glued a small computer fan with a glue gun to the metal housing around the thermostat.

I just took two phoenix chicks out this morning .
Which is day 21 for the eggs. 2 out of 2 . and one more egg two dayes behind these 2 eggs .

but that would mean a perfect hatch if the next one hatches but that never happen before .
I have never had a perfect hatch.

you need to check the incubator for a few days to see how it all can come together..

I believe that the switches and the wafers might be done on them.

AS I just took another one apart and the swtich seems worn out .
I still work mine. But now I have made a good one ,I hope.

I bought two wafers
but am I presently making an incubator from another barrel type .the parts have made two incubators
But the switches I change,,,,,,,,,,,,, I had some switches hanging around and used them,

MY incubator I just made holdes the temperature perfect.with a new switch and a new wafer. And one more incubator to finish .

Most of these round incubators were manufactured by a few companys and sold by various chain stores. They all worked the same and I have never seen one that had asbestos as an insulation as GaHermit described. I have owned four models of these including Sears and Montgomery Wards. All had a wood based composit as an insulator on top and bottom. If GaHermit can let us all know which models carried asbestos as an insulator, That would sure help us all know which ones to stay away from. I use all vintage incubators myself. The ones that I use are made from redwood. I don't think that I have a problem but some may. Asbestos causes cancer. Methothelioma as a matter of fact. Not to scare anyone but I have never seen this asbestos used in any incubator that I have ever owned.

I have the exact one. My father in law pulled it out of the storage room for me, he said he got it at the auction decades ago. it works for me but I start it up almost a week before I put eggs in and really watch the temps.

Asbestos causes cancer. Is use has been outlawed in the U.S.A and most of the world. Check it out on Goggle. It has been on TV for years. Lawyers are advertising all most every day for people with Cancer caused by asbestos to contact them to make their claim.
Hope this Helps HERM
