Uh, dumbfounded. Help? -- UPDATE!!

Okay, this has me totally stumped. So I have three unknown bantams, all about 6-9 weeks, small, so still in the wooden brooder. There's one cockerel and two pullets. I noticed about two days ago one of the pullets was laying down and didn't get up when I went to change their water and food. I didn't think much of it, because just the day before she was running around like crazy, and I figured she was resting. She hasn't lost a dramatic amount of weight, if any. Well, I was going to put them all down on the ground for a bit to frolick around. She just layed there, her legs under her. She doesn't seem to be able to walk or stand up at all, and barely able to grab onto anything. There aren't any visible injuries, and she doesn't seem to be in that much pain. I put her in a seperate part of the brooder with food and water, but she can still see the other two. She was starving. I don't know what could've happened. Any ideas?


Edit;; She can hop around a little bit, not enough to make me feel any better, but just a few hops seems to wear her out, she'll start panting. But she's alert for the most part, eyes bright..


10.04.07 Update;;

Well, Talula [the chick] is doing a little bit better, standing up some. But she's breathing REALLY hard and won't put any weight on her left leg. It didn't seem to cause her any pain when I checked her over, but she won't put any weight on it, if she does it's just enough to hop around. I brought her inside for a bit but she's still breathing hard. Otherwise she seems healthy.

Sounds to me like th eother 2 might have been keeping her from food and she is weak. Hopefully a few days in her own space, with feed and water...will help her recovery. I sure hope so. Keep us posted! Oh, maybe some vit/electrolytes in her water...for a boost.

Could be she was low man on the totem pole and the other two were not letting her get enough food...so she was starving ...try putting some vitamins & electrolytes in her water or a childrens liquid drop vitamin...keep lots of food and water out for her...another waterer and feeder might help ....

What type of vitamins / elecs?

At a farm or feed store they should have a packet of Water soluble premix of vits and elec for poultry, mine is a brand called Durvet....even gatorade is good by the spoonfuls in the water to help....
