Yesterday, I put 3 of my "Special Girls" in with our Ameracauna Roo so I could be sure their eggs are fertile (I'm collecting for the new Incubator)

At the same time, I noticed 2 of my other Girls were coughing....

Now-- they WERE Scarfing scratch at the time (hadn't had any in a while and were making huge pigs of themselves) so it COULD be they were choking on it a bit...

However- I didn't want to take a chance, since they are in the coop a lot right now-- so I started them today on tetracicline.

UH OH!
I wasn't even considering what it might do to the fertility of the eggs!!

I know not to eat any of the eggs until 3 days after the final treatment...
but can we still incubate the fertile ones?
Will they still BE fertile?
Will it cause deformities???

HELP! Anyone?????

can you wait to start incubating the eggs. and even if you just put the girls in with the roo you will still need to wait about 2 weeks to get fertile eggs

i've never heard of it bothering the incubation... stuff like that just usually makes it bad for humans to injest (believe thats spelled wrong.. but im feeling lazy today)

erm... I was allways told the eggs became fertile for the next 3 dqays after they were with the roo... the sperm is only viable 3-4 days....???

Don't know about chickens, but plenty of people become pregnant because they are taking antibiotics while on birth control. . .

so it seems like a possibility
