So, I only expected around 50 or so to hatch. Now I have 70 and counting up. I think we're gonna need a bigger brooder.

This is from the MSU website; allow about 1 square foot of floor space for every 10 chicks through the first 2 weeks. During the 4-6 week period the birds need at least .25 square foot per bird and at 6-12 weeks of age the birds need at least .75 square foot per bird.

If you have 70 chicks, that's 7 square feet for the next 2 weeks.

Just out of curiosity, how many eggs went into lockdown?

How much feed Is it going to take to get them to 6-7 weeks old?

I have gone through about a pint of ground feed already. At least a pound, I'd say. Doing some estimating, I will go through 250 lbs of feed at the end of 7 weeks.

Meant to say 73 chicks earlier and now it's 77. I think that's about all that is going to hatch. Pretty good hatch rate for shipped eggs!

Well, they just keep coming! I've had 80 hatch so far! Two this afternoon, which is nuts since lockdown began Saturday night and first bird was Sunday afternoon. I was about to pull the plug on my incubator this morning! So, anybody buying eggs should definitely give James Marie Farms a call.
