Our rooster has been fun. He is a beautiful specimen. Nice proud tail feathers, colorful wattles, pointed eyebrows and a really cool crow. But.....recently when I go into the coop to do work (water, feed etc.) he has become very aggressive. He flies at me with his spurs up and when I try to shoo him away he wants to continue the fight.

I'd like to keep him but I don't like the behavior, don't want to get hurt or have to hurt him.

What can I do short of the stew pot?

Occasionally we will get an ornery roo. Most of the time when you try to "fight back" it seems to only encourage their bad behavior. I have found if you pick the roo up and carry him around, he will either tame or try to stay away from you when you go in the pen. You may have to do this several times for it to work. It is not fool proof, but it can work.
