my two girls Munk and Joon just learned where the gate is that I go in and out of their pen with. PLUS they are fearless of people, so they have no problem running over my shoe to scoot outside into the yard. LOL now don't get me wrong, they will be free ranged, but I want to wait until they are 6 weeks old to let them into the yard (with me out there) for the first time. They have other idea's. And I can "shoo" them, or give them a push the other way but it doesn't faze them a bit, and I end up playing "chicken wrangler" haha. Good exersize I guess

silly chicks. They are 6 weeks old this coming Wednesday(ish). Sulo, my EE cockerel, ended up going to a great home, and my two girls are happy as can be with one another. They know where the coop is, and even the nest boxes

smart little girls hehe.

That's funny.
If my hens see me go out the gate from the backyard, they will try to follow. All I have to do is say "get back in the yard" and they act like I'm chicken eating bigfoot.
If it is a problem you could put up a temp thigh high fence that you can step over.
