Um, I just came home with 6 chicks

Ok, I'd been planning on getting some next weekend so I'm completely unprepared and what's even worse, these are straight run! I have 6 EE chicks downstairs, two are 2.5 weeks old and one is less than a week. The breeder had them all together and they seem to get along just fine. He had one of his hens raising them, so they're working on adjusting to being alone. I'm not sure if I need a real heatlamp or if I can get away with the desk lamp I have pointed at them.
Ack, what am I doing with straight runs? This is a disease, a sickness.

I would get a heat lamp. It's a good investment in the health of your peeps. Red bulbs are usually preferable cause they seem to cause fewer pecking issues.
