um, what?!

Oh...yeah. I almost forgot.

Had the privilege of watching a flock of chickens hunt down a small gopher one day at my mother's house. Mine did their best to deshell a rather ignorant turtle a couple of weeks ago and my frog/toad population has decreased considerably.

Yah...we have these itty bitty bright green frogs that are sooo tiny...every time I find one I tell then they better get out of the yard if they don't want to be a chicken dinner...I don't think they listen to me, though

Mine ate a dove the other week.

I'm not sure if they killed it or if it was an opportunistic feed, but the dove had got trapped in their covered run and by the time I found it there was only feathers, skull and a few bits of bone and flesh left.

Grossest thing I see them eat is toads. I dont' know how they manage to swallow some of the ones they've gotten hold of but they work at it so long, it just makes you want to go take the boneless looking rag away from them long before they actually swallow the thing. When they do that, it's like a car wreck. I can't stand to watch but I just can't look away, either. Seeing them eat small snakes makes me laugh though. They suck them down like spaghetti. I often wonder if they move around in that crop for a while. Ew.

Now, if I could just get a chicken to live in the walls of our old house....

There doesn't appear to be a mouse problem in the barn but we do get the odd opportunistic mouse in the house.

One of our girls found a snake about a foot long. She, of course, started squawking and running with it, while the other girls chased her. I watched as she just kept swallowing and swallowing, until there was nothing but a squirming tail sticking out of her beak. It totally grossed me out!!! My husband thought it was awesome!
