I have several chicks hat hing with umbilical hernias. This whole hatch has been a mess. I tried doing a rotating hatch and o got myself all confused and then my electric went out for a few hours one day. Day 21 first batch was Sunday then tuesday and then thursday chicks have been hatching in small batches all out of order. One hatched a few days ago and has a small hernia. Chick seems active, eating and drinking. What to do to help with the hernia? Preparation H? And now the next batch are all like that one is really bad and most likely needs to be put down. I detest killing baby chicks. So what causes this because it seems to be happening to me a lot.

I'm sorry about your chicks! It could be due to a disease called omphalitis which is an infection in the yolk. It is caused by dirty eggs or a dirty incubator. Or, the humidity in the incubator could have been off.

It can be anything really from having too much humidity, low humidity, too high of a temperature, too low of a temperature, deformity, etc. They'll most likely pass away unfortunately..
