ummm is this normal?

My youngest cornish cross hen (8 weeks) was laying at the feeder and my 9 week old cochin tried mounting her, is this normal behaviour for a 9 week old?

They are just tring to est. pecking order. They are too young to be mating.

I have seen chicks as young as 7 weeks display mating type behavior, a black Ameraucana cockerel always was chasing my Speckled Sussex pullet and doing a pretty great imitation. Haven't seen it that often, but it happens.

Just as with all animals some mature sooner than others.

My 15 week old turken cockerel has been trying to mount the pullets of the same age for a couple of weeks now. At first, he would mount anything - even my super large cornish X cockerel - but now at least is only trying to mount the pullets. Little brat tried wing dancing for me the other day.

The CX cockerel (same age) is thinking about mounting the pullets too. By "thnking about it" I mean he grabs hold of the pullet and gets one leg up before he forgets what it was he was doing.
