I have successfully broken a broody hen, but is there any way to make a hen go broody?

Hello!

As far as I know, you can't make a hen go broody. It really depends on the breed. Some breeds are incredibly broody, and some never go broody, and of course some are kinda broody.

Let me tell you, if you want a broody hen for hatching eggs, I've found the Silkie hen to be the best broodies and mothers ever! They are obsessed with hatching eggs. Also in my experience, Cochins are pretty broody.

X2 with chicmom. You can't make them broody all though I've read you can possibly encourage it with fake eggs or even golf balls in the nest box. It really does depend on the hen.

And as with nature when you want a broody they won't be and when you don't want a broody they will be :he

Isn't that the truth! My silky went broody after laying about 8 eggs, so I let her hatch a couple barnyard mixes. Then I had a australorp that kept going broody and now that I have eggs, I want to hatch, nothing, not a broody in sight.
