Un-freaking-believable!!!!

OK, since JROOSTER asked for it, I'll post my pen so you all can better visualize the scene. HOWEVER, please don't make TOO much fun of my sad little pen!!! haha. I've got 2 college degree and am a working professional in my field.....but I barely know which end of a hammer to hold and I my carpentry skills are worse than bad!!! I am an IDIOT when it comes to building things. Period. To make things even worse, a lot of the wood and materials I used were salvage (maybe it would sound sexier if I said I "recycled" them). That includes the sad looking door and door frame, which layed in my neighbors backyard about a year after he replaced his own before I asked him for it. Admitedly, a good paint job would do a lot for the pen....but it would still be lipstick on a pig! haha.

Ignore the 3 posts in the foreground (one really tall one, 2 regular T fenceposts). Also, as pathetic as my coop skills are, that little carboard box is NOT my idea of an enclosed coop! haha. Its just a temporary shelter until I can attach the permanent one. Just outside of camera view is an old, used (but in decent shape) 8 x 8 plastic shed like you buy at Lowes to store lawnmowers in. I just haven't had time to reattach the roof (I had to remove roof to get it brought to my house).

The last photo above is a close-up of my biggest and smallest turkies. It amazes me that these 2 were born at the same time from the same parent. I suspect one is a jake (big one) and the other a hen, but I base that on nothing other than size. If any of you have anyway whatsoever of telling the sex of any of the turkeys, I'm all ears (well, eyes I guess).

Otherwise, I hope these photos helped you picture what happened, why I am so protective, etc. The pics make it look like I'm in the country....but like I said...I'm definately NOT! ha

atimme how are the peregrins working out in Chicago. Have they decimated the pidgeons yet? I doubt it. The Chicago flying rats are probably bigger than any falcon. Good luck to them. We have tons of hawks around here - suburbia but bordered by forrest preserve land etc. They have adapted just fine to residential areas. They perch near a bird feeder and pick them off one by one. I stopped feeding birds for that reason. Hawks and falcons are getting fat and lazy just like the population.

We have ANOTHER Red Tail here.He has been coming last few days mid evening trying for the duck's.DH has gotten gun both evening's but...

.. My OEGB's and bantam's are free ranging so he will most likely make off with one of them before he does one of those Pekin or mallard. My one OEGB roo Maximus was getting fast back across that creek this evening lol.The ducks seem to be an alarm when he come's in the go flying and crazy.I got gun loaded and ready and keeping ears peeled all day!

It's against the law to shoot hawks of any kind. You could have major fines if not jail time if caught. It's been said on here many many times!

They are Chickens people!! If you let them walk around out in the open something is going to eat one of them eventually!! Get a livestock dog, a llama, donkey or somethingelse to be out there with them or lock them up.

And before you say anything, I've already lost some to dogs and feral cats. Missing one of my new sebrights now!
