Unable to Stand? UPDATE. Tried to reintroduce her and now she is back inside

Amazing how your hen is doing now!

The white hen we lost was seeming to be having difficult and labored breathing, though it was hot and humid. Mainly, the two just suddenly lost the use of their legs. The photos show how they lay.

Our buckeye is eating like crazy now and I even gave her a few chunks of watermelon, which she eagerly took a few bites of! Also gave her more vitamin B in her beak and she took I. At least 1 CC of it and 3 yesterday. also have the chick saver vitamins mixed in with her water.

This is good news! The photos were looking pretty bad for them. Hope all goes well...

Here is the link for my most recent photo, though it hasn't changed that much and was only taken about 10 hours from the first.

The buckeye is the chicken/pullet that is still alive.

Unfortunately, the sweet little Delaware didn't make it. She was suffering and barely alive. This was a tough decision, but we feel we did what was best. I don't know if our Buckeye will make it either, but at least she is eating some and has taken some water.

Full disclosure: I work for this company so I might be biased.

I set up my Nestcam...yes, that is what it's called, so now I can check in on Navi while I am at work. Two way audio, motion or sound notifications, etc. Kinda cool.

Amazing how nutritional defiencency will affect the girls. But considering they have to produce an egg of which the standard of Protein is taken. means they need exceptional care. They produce so much that we can live on what they give us.

So ourBuckye is still alive! Unable to use her legs though, so not sure her prognosis is very good.

I can't believe we lost our white Delaware so quickly! Like one day she showed signs and the next day-dead!

I am still concerned about the rest, as they were all exposed and the incubation time is so long depending on what the issue is!?!

Anyhow, it is true nutrition is important as they are still growing here, and then as you say egg production kicks in!

This girl has a great appetite however, drinks and poops just fine! So most of her seems to be working just fine!

But her poor legs...

I was thinking again, if this is permanent or she will gain her legs again.
Keep up posted.

Oh I know, exactly what I was thinking! Like she would need a wheelchair or something!?!

So, if this isn't enough, our sons dog was bit and got his eye poked out. So, now helping to deal with the poor puppy!

Drops, and antibiotics....

Do you have anyway to weigh her and make sure she is maintaining her weight?

A food scale would work.

I have birds the same age and they got coccidia at the end of June. One is fully recovered, but it took 4-5 weeks. 6 weeks to go back outside for short periods. this week she just started going out for the entire day.

can you take her or just her poop to a vet for a fecal test and a gram stain test for bacteria? I would think after this many days she would be worse. Maybe she was getting pushed around too and didn't get enough to eat.

just keep posting so we know what happens.
