I have a duckling that hatched today with his yolk sack attached to the shell. Humidity was too high during incubation. He’s been vocal although he’s gotten weaker as the day has passed.
His yolk sack was exposed, so I left him in the shell inside a small cup so he couldn’t kick himself out. However he’s still not absorbed the sack, and it’s now starting to leak out. I have been giving him small amounts of sugar water and applying antibiotic ointment, should I tie off the navel too? Will he die?
I snipped the remainder of his yolk sack off and tied it with a string to prevent anything else from being squeezed out. Also gently washed the yolk all over his body off with warm water. He’s still alive and seems to be doing okay. He’s weak but responsive and noisy. Praying for the best
