I've noticed for quite awhile that nobody is inclined to scroll down to the bottom of the page and try to answer any of these posts . You would think since BYC has so many members , that we all could take 5 minutes to try to look at them and give our best advice . Some just get over looked because some other topic is more interesting....but we have to remember when WE were all looking for advice , and no-one answered . Please take a few minutes to help others out !

What is more important is to answer the emergency threads with no replies. This is apparently being looked at to see what can be done. In the mean time look and answer. Not all of us can do a logical search when they have a dying chick in their hand.

another point of view is that it isn't being answered because no one looking at the time HAS the answer.

especially when the information is sketchy or could be a multitude of issues. wish we were all avian vets and chicken experts, but we are all on different levels of knowledge in different areas. (i read about chickens for THREE years before buying one. i still learn new things everyday.)

wouldn't be cool if chicken coops came with 'Easy' buttons?

So I see we have at least 3 people here willing to commit time to help others out . I do agree VERY fervently that if ANYONE out there has answers for emergencies , they should feel obligated to reply . Unfortunately , I feel that there are too few who know much on the subject. I origionally posted this because BYC DOES have so many members now ( it seems like just last month there were only 2,000 ) Can we count on other members to reply to unanswered posts ...... or are we just the few who try to make others feel like family ?

the best thing in your arsenal for a chicken emergency is an Avian Vet phone number. the info given on any forum should be double checked by a professional. info given here is opinion.

we have tons of members all with different reasons for being such.

Easy buttons are awsome ! Wish they would work in real life though ! I don't ask someone to answer:( something they don't know about....but give me a break...at least look at the photos , comment , or if they ask about simple basic chicken knowledge , at least try to reply . I know we have "sections " on this....but some people are not computer literate , and don't even know to go or how to go to these sites . Besides , it's much nicer to have a " human " response to your questions . Some people , believe it or not , want to try to make new friends . It hurts them when nobody responds to any of their posts .

I understand where you are coming from on this one. Many times for the very basic questions you see unanswered if nothing else say hello and point them to the learning center here.

#1 Even an opinion keeps the posts cycled up where some one who may know the answer will see it. Nothing wrong with saying you are not sure but have you considered _______________.

#2 Many posts I find unanswered do not have enough information to make an informed decision. So asking a person for more details that will help the next person who comes upon the post will help.

#3 Many do come to sites like this because they have no access to an avian vet and are very grateful for any help, opinions or suggestions they can get.

#4 If a post is going unanswered because it is in the wrong area of the forum REPORT IT and we will move it.

These four suggestions are the easiest way to deal with 0 reply posts that you see and in the end usually help to get people an answer.
