Hello,
I have noticed that I have two hens that seem to be starting to show some sort of sickness. One is 8 years old and seems to be having trouble breathing. I hear a rasp come from her, but otherwise, she has been acting normal. Could this just be her old age, or perhaps a respiratory issue? My second hen is around 4 years old and is a little unbalanced. Before today she would not let me get anywhere near her without running away, but today she let me scoop her up with no issue. She seems like she wishes to stay in the nesting boxes. I thought at first she might be egg-bound as she tried to poop, but could only get a bit out, although I did not feel anything when I examined her. She is eating and drinking, but one eye also seems to droop a bit. I took her out of the coop and placed her on the grass, she tried scratching the ground but that also threw her off balance so she was unable to do so. If anybody has any suggestions on what could be going on/how to treat them it would be greatly appreciated!
