What is the best way to prepare them safely? Should I peel & cook them? I know peels are a NO NO - and I have heard that raw poatoes are a NO NO too. So, Mashed Taters for the girls??? THANKS!~

OH - and they all have sprouts.... can they eat those sprouts?

i think that only GREEN peels are bad for them to eat...i have given my birds the brown peels plenty of times..
i think they could eat them raw...but i'd just boil or bake them up for them.

No, don't feed them the sprouts. They have a higher concentration of the toxic elements in them. People shouldn't eat potato sprouts, either.

right..i wouldnt eat the sprouts...
but if the peels are brown (NOT green) they are safe for the birds to eat. just like thay are safe for us to eat. and they have alot of vitamins in them also..

To be safe I've never given my girls potato at all.

Peel and cook em to be real safe.

I've read on here not to feed potato peels, green or otherwise. My Grandma laughed and said "what do you think our chickens lived on 80 years ago?" I've fed peels and raw potatoes mixed with other table scraps. I've never noticed any changes in my birds or the laying.
