Unconventional Housing

few of my highschool friends did OK raising a family on a school bus on a looong trip to Alaska. Now the bus has a second level and is a house parttime. It doesn;t go anymore, at least on it's on power.

In AK the rules on family housing are lax.. here in WI a lot of CPS will take your kids if you don't have conventional housing.

My house is not extreme, but maybe a little unusual for Kansas. It's on stilts. We are up on a hill so never floods, though there is a stream that runs behind the house. There was another house closer to town, right on the river, also on stilts. That river regularly floods, and once the water was so high, I think the house may have gotten a little wet. The people that used to live there had a boat to get to their car when it was flooded. They could also quite literally go fishing from their porch. The city tore it down a couple years back to widen the bridge.

I've seen an old missile silo converted into living quarters. The first 3 levels were about 35,000 square foot, and everything under those was just the pumps that ran continuously because the water had flooded most of the underground shaft.

Those shipping container houses are sooo neat! We were thinking about something like that when we get some property but I hear they can be just as expensive as normal houses.

There is someone not far from here that has a house made from straw bales.
I have off and on googled property for sale, especially interested in the lighthouses and churches. Okay, just about anything different!
OR if I did end up staying here, doing something with this house that is a bit "out there".

We live near the Ohio River...a local man took two old barges, flipped them
over and made a house. Actually an pretty neat place.

I actually live on a dirt road. Neighbor man built a big, big, metal pole barn.
Then built his whole house inside that. Complete with parking lot for his boat,
camper, cars and what not. From outside, it just looks like a polebarn in a hayfield.
Sharp place inside.

Always thought I would like a straw house....long as the big bad wolf doesn't know
where I live...
