Uncovered duck run

They are amazing birds really. We have several around here along with redtailed and more.

They are designed for fast maneuvers in very tight spaces including through trees and shrubs. Their lives depend on hunting ability.

The half acre my birds are on is heavily trees and has many bushes and last year a hawk attacked my little OEGB and mutilated him. I can’t cover that area so I have hung predator tape on tree limbs and thankfully I haven’t had an attack since that one. I saw a you tube video of a hawk sitting right out side of a pen then would fly in an pick off a chicken that was inside.

I have an uncovered duck run, but my run has tree cover. I have not had issues with hawks going after my ducks but I I have had issues with bald eagles going after my ducks while free ranging. I have added shelters in the open fields which has offered shade and eagle protection. It’s a trade off and there is risk to not keeping your ducks in a covered run. You just have to weigh risks vs benefits.
True.....they have a rather large area to completely cover....free range they would be supervised. If I were to give them a covered run it would have to be much smaller.
