I had a emergency involving a relative and had to go out of town all day today. One chick had hatched and 2 eggs had pipped a little when I left at 10;45 a.m. this morning. When I got home at 9 p.m. the humidity was down to 56% and it was still just the one chick. I only hear her. I have raised the humidity back to where it should be. Do you thing the chicks could have shrink wrapped? This was a dry hatch that was going perfectly until this. If nobody hatches by 8:42 a.m. tomorrow, should I go ahead and get the one out? She will be 1 whole day old then. Or leave her in there the full 48 hours before I try to do anything?

I hope your relative is ok. 56 isn't great but it shouldn't be too bad, I'm surprised it dropped since hatching usually increases the humidity. the hatched chick can be taken out if the brooder is ready. It can take up to 24 hours from internal pip to hatch, hatching is a long process. Can you candle the eggs to see if they have internally pipped?

Thanks for responding! it has now been 44 hours since the first egg hatched. As of 20 hours ago, we have 5 babies. The humidity is at 90%. I think I see a tiny pip in another egg, but it might be from the chicks hitting the other eggs. Most of these babies don't look they're getting dry. Should I take the oldest one out at 48 hours, or wait longer if it's not fluffed out? Is 48 hours or 72 the max?I have a brooder set up and the heater is warmed and ready. Just wasn't sure since they don't look fluffy. Don't want them to get chilled. I know it's usually best to leave things alone. Just concerned that they aren't fluffing up in that humidity. Sorry, I'm babbling. I just happened to wake up at 3 a.m. so I went to check on them.

That humidity is a little high for hatching, I'd candle the remainder eggs to see how they're doing.
Take the chicks out if the brooder is ready, they won't fluff in the humidity. :]
