Sorry to hear about your hen, my condolences. Just wanted to tell you that maggots are not always a bad thing. Since maggots only feed on dead tissue, they can help prevent gangrene and some infections. I had a cat that went missing for 3 days and finally came dragging home with her entire rear end infested with maggots, very gross looking. I rushed her to the vet, who said she'd likely been hit by a car and had a broken hip plus lots of road rash on her rear. He also said that the maggots, gross as they seemed, had likely saved her life by keeping the dead tissue cleaned up.
