I think I finally broke my hen's broodiness an hour or two ago by transferring her to a new dog crate without the fake eggs she'd been nesting on. But now she's constantly growling and grumbling. Full disclosure: I am a huge softy who spoils all my animals terribly and gets stressed out if they're not stuffed with treats and perfectly content.

So, my serious question is if there is something else I need to provide her besides food and water and a comfy crate to ease her transition? Could she be egg-bound or have another health issue related to the broodiness?

(Note: it's unseasonably cold in my region, which is why I'm keeping Blondie inside in a crate.)

LOL, "angry broody" is so apropos. The most stressful thing about this situation is that I can't trust my hormonal boys to do their protective job.without harassing her, and Broody Blondie has tried attacking my super-awesome dog a couple of times, and the hawks in my neighborhood don't seem to care that I am literally standing over Blondie during her outings.

When my broody broke after a few days, it was as if it had never happened.

Chatter to her while she’s in broody jail, no nesting material etc in her “comfy crate”, just a roost (tree branch or 2x4) to sit and sleep on, and nothing but feed and clean water, as nuthatched said.

You get to be the grownup, and she gets to be the chicken. 🐓

Thank you and @nuthatched so much. I really don't know what I would do without your wisdom and support!!

You’ll be fine! Trust your chickens to know how to chicken. (At any rate, my chickens know a lot more about chickening than I do.)

Our jobs are to provide healthy feed, clean water, a safe, comfortable, secure run, chances to exercise and get out in the sun and fresh air, and the opportunity to do all the mysterious but incredibly important things that chickens do all day long.
