Unhatched Eggs

I had a hen hatch out 7 chicks. Never did find the shells. I had another hen sitting on 5 eggs. Yesterday I went out and the eggs were gone and she was sitting on one little chick. Do hens eat the shells after the chicks hatch? Do they eat the unhatched eggs?

I personally think they do . I have had the same problem and never found one shell in her nest box after she was done
